Meet Our Midwife
Diana Buckwalter has been a Nurse Midwife for many years. Her desire to work with women and babies began when she was a young girl. Diana received her nursing degree from Regis University while mothering 7 children. She worked as a nurse in labor and delivery for many years. While working in labor and delivery Diana gained experience helping moms have babies and also helping them to achieve the experience they desired. She continued her education with a master's degree as a Nurse Practitioner followed by a post master's as a Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM). Her philosophy stresses women having a positive pregnancy and childbirth experience. Safety is never compromised. A healthy mom and baby is of the utmost importance. South Denver OB GYN has 4 outstanding physicians to assist with any complication that may arise.
Nissa Erickson-Geisness has spent the last decade working to improve women's and children's health. She is a board certified nurse midwife and nurse practitioner with masters degrees from University of Colorado in both the Midwifery and the Women's Health Nurse Practitioner programs. She has bachelors degrees in Nursing and Women's Studies from St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota. In 2000 she launched her nursing career as a perinatal nurse at a hospital-based birth center in the Twin Cities. During this time, she also studied health care in India and volunteered at a children's orphanage in Central America. In 2004 she moved to Colorado and helped open the University of Colorado Hospital's Birth Center as a charge nurse, spending five years serving on various committees to improve patient and family centered care. Nissa's passion for midwifery began early in her life, when she was present at the midwife-attended birth of her younger sister, Kate, after tagging along to the prenatal visits and Lamaze classes. She is dedicated to advocating for women and their families, by empowering them to make their own informed health care decisions and by providing sensitive patient-centered care, regardless of age, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, or socio-economic situations. She is respectful of the unique needs and choices of women throughout pregnancy and birth, and through various life stages, from adolescence to menopause. Her clinical interests include preventive women's health, adolescent care (both gynecology and teen pregnancy), patient and family centered birth, and breastfeeding. Nissa and her husband, Gabe, live in Highlands Ranch where her big heart extends to animals-they have adopted two retired greyhounds and rescued a pair of precocious cats. She loves traveling, animals, live music, and anything outdoors, especially camping and skiing. In her spare time she tries out Food Network recipes, volunteers for Colorado Greyhound Adoption, and roots for DU hockey and Minnesota Twins baseball.
